mission
Bantay Bata 163 is committed to create and provide a safe, nurturing and loving environment where children can develop and realize their full potential and become productive members of the society
Bantay Bata 163 – Davao was established in August 2000 through the assistance of Cooperacion EspaƱola and Dia Solidario of Union Fenosa and the Presidential Social Fund. This is the first and the only BB 163 center in Mindanao and outside of Manila.
It is the only organization in Mindanao that offers an accessible hotline that caters to children in need of special protection, twelve (12) hours a day and five (5) days a week. This makes it easier for children to seek help when in need. It is also the only recognized non-government organization deputized to rescue abused children.
It offers its programs and services for children ages 0-12 years old who are in crises and in need of special protection. Consultation and referral are provided for 13-18 years old. Its primary clients are those residing within the three (3) districts of Davao City. Being the only Bantay Bata center in Mindanao, it has also assisted abused children coming from Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Agusan del Sur, Compostela Valley, North Cotabato and Zamboanga del Sur.

Bantay Bata 163 Davao (BB 163) provides a holistic intervention for the children of Mindanao. It offers Child Protection Services, Residential Services and Advocacy program. This menu of intervention serves as both protective interventions of the rights of the child to live in a secured environment and preventive measures from the hostilities around him/her.
12 Hour Hotline Service
The hotline service of BB 163 is the original main intervention of the organization in protection the children. This was established to accommodate and respond to reports related to child abuse, provide counseling to cases involving children in difficult circumstance and accept donations for the organization.
Rescue
Reported cases in the hotline, which are assessed to pose high risk to a child, are referred for rescue. The primary objective of the rescue operation is to effect the temporary immediate removal of the child from the abusive environment and to facilitate his/her placement in a licensed child-caring institution.
It is important to note that during rescue operations, crises counseling, medico-legal and legal assistance are being undertaken by assigned licensed social workers.
Home Visits
Reported cases that are assessed to pose low to moderate risk for the child and are within the jurisdiction of the Bantay Bata 163 are scheduled for home visit. This aims to validate the reported abuses, assess the circumstance of the child involved, provide therapeutic services and plan levels of intervention. The long-term goals, on the other hand, are to educate and advocate for the rights of the child and more importantly, to alleviate the condition of the child from dysfunctional to normal functioning.
Walk-in Desk
The organization also provides face-to-face counseling and immediate assistance to clients.
Medical Assistance
Medical assistance is being given to clients in the form of referral to medical institutions and professional services, provision of medicines and airing stories on ABS-CBN media outlets to raise funds for the treatment of indigent and sick children from 0-12 years old.
CHILDREN'S HOME - DAVAO
Bantay Bata 163 lives on the principle that the family is still the best environment for children in need of special protection. Thus, children rescued from abuses, neglect and abandonment are given temporary family environment in the Children’s Home.
For the past seven (7) years of providing protective custody and temporary shelter to distressed children in Davao City, BB 163 Children’s Home has remained to be consistent in the provision of quality care and services. Since it’s operation, the Children’s Home became partners with the local government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the plight of providing interventions to children in need of special protection. It serves as a ray of hope to children victims of physical and sexual abuses, abandonment, neglect and other forms of abuses.

Admission
The Children’s Home, which is ideal to house 25 children at a time, is presently paying homage to 42 children. This is due to the great demand of taking custody of children in need of shelter.
Discharges
The stay of the children in the center is temporary in nature. Thus, the resident social workers exert all means possible to prepare the psychosocial and economic functioning of the biological family and relatives in the event that the child returns to them. But with the center’s collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the City Social Services Development Office (CSSDO) the reintegration of the children back to their families and the community has been effective. To date, the center has reintegrated more than half of its rescued children to their families and relatives.

DAVAO CITY
The community plays a vital role in organizations such as the Bantay Bata 163. The success or failure of an organization depends on the response of the community on the cause being pursued by the organization. The community serves as a social, financial and moral support system of every organization, and indeed Bantay Bata 163 is blessed with such holistic support from the Davao City Community.
Davao City has overwhelmingly supported all the projects of the organization in the last three years. Most of the support given has greatly helped the daily operations of the organizations. The Barya Mo, Buhay KO project where coin banks are strategically placed in government’s offices, private firms, commercial and business establishments, and other public places where tremendously supported by the people of Davao. In fact, over the last three (3) years, there has already been an increasing request for additional coin banks to be placed in establishments. Another heart-warming response of the Davao City community is through the market vendors. Once a week, the vendors in the leading public markets in the city donate meat, vegetables and other food items to the Children’s Home. This has greatly helped the sustainability of the Children’s Home. The organization has also been fortunate to be the beneficiary of projects of socio-civic organizations such as various concerts, live shows and other special events.
These are just few of the support that the organization has been receiving from the community. There are still those private institutions and individuals who wish to remain unnamed who were always at the backs of the Filipino child to move on and live in a child he/she truly deserves.
With such support, Bantay Bata 163 is more than inspired to protect and pursue the rights of the Filipino Child – the rights of the Dabawenyo Child!
